Sam and Steven are a long-term couple who decide to add a woman to the mix, not just for sex (though sex will be had, oh yes it will) but for love. Enter Samantha. Avoiding the prurience of reality TV but having fun with the jaw-dropping intrigue, this perky doc follows the three as they shape a monogamous (“Trinogamous?” someone wonders) life, co-habitating and running a business, even having children. Can it work? They’re all very New York neurotic and therapy-drunk, but likeable, and you root for them, hoping the experiment will succeed as nice little ha-ha to the family values camp. But what’s most fascinating and sad – is how the forces that pull people apart are the same in any relationship, no matter how determined lovers may be to reinvent the wheel.

The Pitch: Three’s Company but with two guys and gayer.
